A group of us went to visit Fort Meagher in Camden Crowsshaven on Bank Holiday Monday and had a most enjoyable day. Many thanks to Jason who gave us a tour and was very entertaining and enlightening. Most of this fort is un derground so there are many tunnels.Of special interest is a cantilever stairs which is a work of art especially having been built in 1865 or so. We did the 196 steps down to the original main entrance. They have a lovely cafe with cakes and coffee etc and an awe inspiring verandah with a view over Cork Harbour. We could see ships including including the ferry to Santander and to Pembroke also lots of yachts. We would like to thank Jason for the tour and Eileen who was most kind and helpful. All the people running the place are volunteers and it is a credit to them. a very enjoyable day out. laster in the evening we visited Myrtleville and Bunnyconnelan where we had a delicious meal . thank you to the lovely staff.
