PLASTIC

We are drowning in plastic! Our rivers lakes ponds and oceans are full  of plastic and we are the cause. It is polluting the water and killing the fish and we are eating the fish!
Please REDUCE REUSE and RECYCLE.
We in Mallow have a short talk each week about ways of reducing the use of plastic. A small prize is given for the best or mopst interesting suggestion. My first picture shows what it might be like soon in Ireland if we do not take heed.

One of the worst offenders apart from cigarette butts is coffee cups of the take out variety.
We are encouraging our members to use re usable coffee cups. There are a good variety of them available at reasonable prices plain or very fancy floral etc. We are also asking the cafes if they are using compostable coffee cups and if not why not.

This cafe also uses paper NOT plastic straws!

Mallow at Griffins

We have just spent a most wonderful day at Griffins Garden Centre and Retaurant in Dripsy. Four of our members were invited with other groups to attend for the day. We were made most welcome and had tea/coffee and home baking to start. There were people from all Cork and Kerry there.
First we had a cookery demonstration by head chef Raphael the a Patio container demonstration by Paul head gardener followed by a fashion show and lunch. After lunch we had a Q and A session with Margaret with lots of tips and ideas and a raffle with lovely prizes.
We got a got a lovely goody bag coming home, a shopping bag containing plant compostable coffee cup and other goodies.
Well done to Margaret and her team for introducing compostable coffee cups. Those coffee cups that most cafes and garages give out for take-out are a blight in the world as they never break down.
The compostable cups can be planted with seeds or bulbs and set in the ground and will naturally disintegrate with time.
