We had a lovely lunch at Milanos on Grand Canal followed by the show. We had excellent seats thanks to our secretary Phil. The show was brilliant very professional , the songs and music very nostalgic. There was some interaction with the audience and at one stage "Diana Ross" invited somebody to come up and sing. An elderly man went onto the side stage and sang wonderfully. I cant remember what song but it was brilliant.
The story basically was about how and why Motown Record label was set up. At the time , in the sixties I think, black people had little or no opportunity to showcase their talents in singing music and song writing and as you know they were and are very talented.
So this fellow called Berry Gordy decided to do something about it. It was not easy and he had many heartaches but he got there eventually.
Among the people he recorded were Dians Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Little Richie. The Jackson 5,The Commadores,Marvin Gaye,Mary Wells,The Four Tops,The Temptations,Michael Jackson etc
Among the well known songs we heard on the day were "My Guy" by Mary Wells a favourite of my own. In fact I have that record which I bought in London in the 60's. Also" Whats going on" ," Dancing in the street ", " I heard it through the grapevine", " Aint no mountain high enough" and many more.
All in all a very enjoyable day out.
Our next trip is our first full day trip to Dublin to EPIC with lunch at the Hilton.
