MALLOW DAY TRIP TO TRALEE AND BALLYHEIGUE

Our last trip before taking a break for the month of August was to Tralee and Ballyheigue. Our first stop was Ballygarry   House Hotel for Tea/coffee and scones. We got a great welcome and had our refreshments in quick time before heading out to the Wetlands just outside Tralee. This is a marshy area which has been developed as a tourist attraction. First we had a talk and presentation from Owen about Tralee Bay and the ecology and the fish and birds in this area. then we went out on the Wetlands in boats. the photos show us getting into our life jackets showing they take safety seriously here. Each boat took 8 to 10 people and had a very quiet engine and an overhead canopy. It was very pleasant gliding along the canal while our guide told us about the reeds and other plants growing here. Also the swans and other birds we met on our journey. They have a lovely cafe here too. Well worth a visit. We also went up on the tower from which we had fantastic views.
It was lunchtime  by then so we headed for O Donnells bar/restaurant on the Ballyheigue road where we got a great welcome and lovely lunch before heading for Ballyheigue. Our driver Conor is a terrific guide also and entertained us with stories about the area etc He also took us around Kerry head and up boreens where we could see over to Clare. He also took us to see the grave of the first Rose of Tralee Mary O Connor. After our walk on the promenade in Ballyheigue we were hungry once again so back to Ballygarry  House Hotel for a delicious meal. We met Mary G there as she was attending a wedding there on that day and she looked lovely in her Style.
